Reason for travel
Mission work in Buriat, Eastern Russia, 100kms from the Mongolian border. Referred to as the First Mongol Mission - arrived in the area in 1818. Ordered to leave in 1840 by the Russian Emperor - following pressure from the Orthodox church but Stallybrass and the Swans actually left in early 1841.
Route
First established the Mission in Irkutsk then moved to Selenginsk (modern-day Novoselenginsk) in 1818 to be among the Buriat people. from where it settled on the other bank of the river Ona. Stallybrass and his company moved their mission to Khodon 20 miles away on the same river where the school and printing house were established.
